The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of DirectShow filters, VFW/ACM codecs, and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your audio and movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even several less common formats.

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:

What is CCCP?

The full title is the Combined Community Codec Pack. Actually, it's more a filter pack than a codec pack, but filter doesn't begin with C and we wanted a good acronym. The name is also a pun on the Russian name for USSR, Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, abbreviated as "СССР". Should you be appalled by this choice of name, Blame movax.

Jokes aside, the CCCP was created to replace the video playback packs provided by several anime fansub groups in favor of a single reliable pack capable of decoding practically any groups' files - without breaking compatibility for other formats. Since then it has grown into a pack that can decode more or less anything that you will run into during your travels on the internet.
Why should I use CCCP?

Why CCCP? Because it achieves as much as possible with as little as possible. Other codec packs tend to either randomly not work, break the system, or install far too much cruft. With the CCCP, you know that when you install it properly, it just works. You don't need to mess around in the options to get it to work, and chances are it will resolve any other conflicts on install as well. CCCP was invented so you can "Uninstall everything else, install the pack and live happily ever after". That being said, for the adventurous there are pages of options available to tweak if you feel like it.

You won't need to install any other codecs


Codecs have always been a pain in the butt. Thats because there has never been a 100% viable working solution available for the average computer user. There are several good codec package solutions out there, but none of them did everything i wanted. I was always in need of a tweak, adjustment, or even a reinstallation just to get the codecs I needed/wanted and most of the time, the file still didnt play. I've never claimed to be a media guru. My media experience is to doubleclick a file i downloaded and hope that it plays. What I do know is how to package software. So I decided to package some codecs and share them with the rest of the world. With this package all possible conflicts are already dealt with. Many user suggested default settings are implemented.

It does not contain a media player and it doesn't associates filetypes. With this package installed you will be able to use any media player, limited only by the players' capabilities, to play DVD's, movies and video clips of almost any filetype. Streaming video is supported in all popular web browsers. By default you won't need to make any adjustments to enjoy a variety of media content immediately.

Users have the ability to choose what is installed using the public redistributable or after an unattended install, you can select to remove specific portions without removing the entire package. Future releases will recognize previous releases and are capable of performing upgrade installations.

This package contains QuickTime v7.1.3 components with the tray icon permanently disabled.

Uninstall all other codecs BEFORE installing this comprehensive package.
