Play sounds using the computer keyboard

Soundplant 26.1 is a self-contained digital audio performance program that turns your computer keyboard into a fully customizable sample-triggering device. It allows the assignment of .wav and .aif files of unlimited size to 72 keyboard keys, with no external devices needed and no MIDI involved.

It can be used as a drum pad, to mix together tracks in realtime, to quickly sketch sound designs, or as a performance, installation, or presentation tool. Because it is not a synthesizer and instead uses your own digital samples (it´s a ´software sampler´), Soundplant is a virtually limitless electronic instrument.

It is a useful tool for parents that allows you to lock your computer keyboard, CD drive doors and power-off button. When the keyboard is used it will display images and play sounds every time a key is pressed, thereby preventing access to the desktop and applications, while adding some entertainment value for the kid.

KatMouse

The prime purpose of the KatMouse utility is to enhance the functionality of mice with a scroll wheel, offering 'universal' scrolling: moving the mouse wheel will scroll the window directly beneath the mouse cursor (not the one with the keyboard focus, which is default on Windows OSes). IMO this is a major increase in the usefullness of the mouse wheel.

Another feature involves the wheel button. Since the wheel button is not consistently used in Windows, KatMouse can use it for a kind of task switching: with a click of the wheel button you can push a window to the buttom of the stack of windows that is your desktop, making a recovered window the active window.
