First things first. Yes, it is a spelling checker, no, you don't need any DLLs or ActiveX controls and yes, it is free.

But it's slow, and it needs quite a bit more work. The main reason I'm posting it here unfinished is so that other people can improve (rip out and start again) the code that is the main "engine" of it, and add other features to it.

FreeSpell

FreeSpell is a spell checker for any and all Windows applications. You can use it in Microsoft Outlook, Firefox, Visual C++, and even in Windows Explorer when renaming files. In fact, anything that supports the clipboard supports FreeSpell, and all it takes is a hotkey to invoke it.

By downloading FreeSpell you also got a copy of ProSpell. You can try out both programs without obligation.

Note, however, that ProSpell is not free. In order to allow full functionality you must register it.

tinySpell

Occasionally you need to check the spelling of words in an application that does not include a spelling checker and you don't want to launch your word processor just for that.

This is when tinySpell becomes handy. It is a small utility that allows you to easily and quickly check the spelling of words in any Windows application. tinySpell monitors your typing on the fly and alerts you whenever it detects a misspelled word. It also checks the spelling of every word you copy to the clipboard.
